Dr. Hiroshi Matsushima is a Research Fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy and holds an appointment with the Australia-Japan Research Centre. His research focuses on the effects of regulatory policies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and pollutant emissions in the transportation sector. Specifically, Hiroshi’s work examines how economic behaviours of auto manufacturers and consumers can inform the development of regulatory strategies that maximise environmental benefits while attaining economic efficiency.

Professor Takeda Masahiko is a Professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Applied Economics, School of International and Public Policy at Hitotsubashi University. Professor Takeda’s research interests include economic policy and development with a focus on Asia.

Dr Andrew Levidis is a historian of modern Japan and East Asia, whose work focuses on political history, history of international relations, and the modern historiography of war.

I am Associate Professor in the Strategic & Defence Studies Centre, Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, at The Australian National University, with particular expertise in Chinese foreign and security policy, China-Japan relations, and the economics-security nexus in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ben Ascione is Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University. He is also the Japan editor at East Asia Forum and a research associate at the Japan Centre for International Exchange.

Lauren Richardson is a Lecturer in the Department of International Relations and Director of the ANU Japan Institute. From 2018-2020 she was Director of Studies and Lecturer in the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy at the ANU. Prior to that Dr Richardson taught Northeast Asian Relations at the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on the role of non-state actors in shaping diplomatic interactions in Northeast Asia, particularly Japan-Korea relations.

I am a social scientist researching the low carbon energy transition. I am currently an Associate Professor at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University, where I sit on the steering committee of the Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific initiative. From 2018 to 2021 I served as Associate Dean for Research in the ANU’s College of Asia and the Pacific.

Simon Avenell is Professor in the School of Culture, History, and Language and Associate Dean (Higher Degrees by Research), ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. He specializes in modern Japanese history, civic activism, civil society, environmental history, and transnational history.
