Professor Shiro Armstrong appointed to the Australia-Japan Foundation Board

The Australia-Japan Research Centre is pleased to announce that its Director, Professor Shiro Armstrong, has been appointed to the Board of the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF). Professor Shiro Armstrong will officially join the AJF Board in February 2025, bringing extensive expertise in Australia-Japan relations and economic policy.

Established in 1976, the AJF is Australia’s oldest cultural council, dedicated to strengthening the bilateral and regional relationship between Australia and Japan. The Foundation aims to foster awareness and understanding in both nations of their shared interests and common values. Board members of the AJF contribute knowledge and insight to support Australia’s foreign policy objectives, enhancing collaboration across economic diplomacy, science, technology, education, and the arts.

With its headquarters in Canberra and an office at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, the AJF plays a pivotal role in furthering the Australia-Japan Special Strategic Partnership.
